Nelson Bellido, President

Nelson Bellido served a s a Miami-Dade County prosecutor from 1993 through 1997. From 1995 to 1999, Nelson was also an Adjunct Professor of Business Law at Florida Memorial College and a certified Adult Education Teacher for the Miami-Dade County Public School System wherein he taught American History and Government in preparation for the Immigration & Naturalization Service (“INS”) examination. Nelson is currently of counsel for Shook, Hardy & Bacon’s Miami office. He is a member of The Florida Bar, the Dade County Bar Association, the Florida Bar Equal Opportunities Committee, the Cuban American Bar Association and the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair Committee. He is also the Dade County Bar Director of Legal Services and was a panelist for a Mediating Commerce/Cases Seminar. Nelson is currently the President of the Duke University Alumni Association of the Miami/Fort Lauderdale Chapter. Nelson received his B.A. from Duke University in 1989 wherein he earned the Duke University Leadership Award. He received his Juris Doctor in 1992 from the University of Florida College of Law where he was honored with the Trial Team-Outstanding Senior Advocate Award. Nelson is admitted to practice before the state courts of Florida and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Dan Bernstein

Since June of 2006 Dan has been an Assistant United States Attorney assigned to the general crimes unit. Prior to that he was a Miami-Dade Assistant State Attorney for 12 years where he served as a felony division chief and was then assigned to the organized crime and public corruption units. Throughout his career, Dan has also served as an adjunct professor of litigation skills at the University of Miami School of Law. Dan received his undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis, and his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

Chris Brown, Past President

Chris served as a Miami-Dade County Prosecutor from 1994 to 1998. He is currently a partner with the law offices of Cozen O'Connor in Miami where he concentrates in products liability, employment, commercial, and election law. He has an A/V rating from Martindale & Hubbell and has been recognized as a top litigator by Chambers USA and as a "Florida Super Lawyer" by Law & Politics Magazine.

Chris is a former adjunct professor of international law at Florida International University and speaks French, Russian and Spanish. Chris has tried numerous cases in both state and federal courts and has argued before the Supreme Court of Florida. He is a member of The Florida Bar and the American Bar Association and is admitted to practice before the state courts of Florida and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida. He received his B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1986 and his Juris Doctor in 1994 from the University of Miami School of Law. He also has a Diplôme d'Études Superieures from the University of Geneva, which was conferred in 1994 and an M.A.L.D that he received in 1995 from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.



Suzanne Brown-Vazquez, Vice President

Suzie served as a Miami-Dade County Prosecutor from 1997 through 2001. After leaving the State Attorney’s Office, she joined the law firm of Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker where she concentrated her practice in the areas of products liability, premises liability and maritime defense. In July of 2004, she accepted a staff counsel position with Carnival Cruise Lines and is currently the Manager of Guest Claims for Carnival’s Loss Prevention Department. Suzie is a member of the Florida Bar, Dade County Bar and the Dade County Defense Lawyers Association, and is admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida and all Florida state appellate and trial courts. Suzie received a B.A. in Marketing and Finance from Florida State University, College of Business, in 1993. She received her J.D. from St. Thomas University in 1997.
